Glen and Ruth Miller are taking over for Randy Grewe
Randy Grewe jokes that Glen and Ruth Miller may have purchased the perfect business.
Grewe, of course, is the one selling it after 19 years as owner of Old Hoosier Meats.
To be sure, Old Hoosier isn’t the same business Randy purchased in 2004. The historic butcher shop at 101 Wayne Street in downtown Middlebury, Indiana, was one of half a dozen or more standalone butcher shops in Elkhart County back then. Now, there may be that many or a few more, but most of them are part of Hispanic grocery stores. A number have closed and neither Goshen nor Elkhart have butcher shops they once had.
Randy purchased the business from Lynford Miller and learned to cut and smoke meat. Folks came to buy meat or retrieve that from their rented lockers. It was a pretty simple business.
Randy started growing it, which added some complexity but also made it more vibrant.
